Continental tires one of the biggest manufacturers of tires for leading auto companies like Ford, recently announced that they would be recalling around 390,657 of their tires. Of these, 330,360 tires belong to the Ford F-250 truck alone. The continental tires used on this super duty truck for the model years 2008-09 have been recalled. The reason behind this recall is because of the uneven wear and vibration as well as the possibility of their being separated belt edges, which could result in the separation of tread.

The rest of the tires from the recalled batch had been sold for use as replacement tires. Some of the tire models included in the recall is the Contitrac/ Continental TR OWL which are the Outline White Tires of the model number LT275/70R18 125/122S, Contitrac/ Continental of the model number LT275/70R18 125/122S and the Contitrac/ Continental TR BSW or the Black Sidewall tires of the model number LT275/70R18 125/122S.

All of the tires which have been recalled were produced during May 6, 2007 and September 20, 2008. According to Continental, all the tires which were recalled had met all of the federal standards of safety, however, when it came to the performance expectations on the field, set by Continental itself, they were not up to standards.

The tire company also made a note that the separation of the belt edge took place during conditions of under inflation or overloading during high temperatures. The company so far has said that they would be notifying the customers of Ford who have used these tires and would also be making replacements of the recalled tires without any charge to the customer.
